Earlier this year, administrative sanctions changed and one of them concerns the penalty in case of
exceeding the resident permit (article 18 decree 144/2021/ND-CP relative to security sanctions)
To answer your questions, there are different level of sanction.
Penalties aren’t the same according to the time of exceeding.
There are five scales of sanctions.
The first one is lower than sixteen days, the fine is between VND500,000 and 2,000,000.
Then, between sixteen and thirty days, the fine is between 3 and 5 million VND.
If you stay without visa in Vietnam between sixty and ninety days after the expiration, you will pay
between VND 10,000,000 and 15,000,000.
But IF, you stay more than nighty days after the end of your visa, you will pay between VND 15,000,000
and 20,000,000.
